Creations of the Human Mind: Richard Dedekind's Mathematical Thought
Abstract: Richard Dedekind stressed the importance of concepts and methods. He thought that numbers were free creations of the human mind. He put forward many new concepts and theorems, especially the idea of defining the irrational number with the cut of rational number, thus getting the basis of natural numbers, ideal theory and other new concepts of abstract algebra. All these eventually laid a solid foundation for modern mathematics. He also had close academic contact with many mathematicians and played an indispensable role in the mathematical community. Based on the materials about Richard Dedekind, we analyzed his achievements, influences and mathematical community.

Carl Friedrich Gauss: The Great Mind in the History of Mathematics
Abstract: Carl Friedrich Gauss had made landmark achievements in number theory, algebra, geometry, astronomy, physics, etc. He put forward the philosophy that “number is purely a product of our minds”. Through the research and analysis of Gauss’ works, letters and other literature materials, this paper mainly reviews his life experience, achievements and philosophical beliefs in order to have a deeper understanding of the mathematician. Key Words: Carl Friedrich Gauss; The product of mind; Number theory

Hyman Bass: The Founder of Algebraic K-Theory
Abstract: Hyman Bass was a prominent mathematician and mathematics educator in America in the 20th century, and the recipient of the National Medal of Science in 2006. Bass made significant contributions to algebraic K-theory, number theory, group theory and algebraic geometry, and founded the branch of algebraic K-theory. He served as president of the American Mathematical Society and the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction, and had a profound impact on the development of mathematics and mathematics education. In addition, Bass and his disciples also maintained close academic connections with Chinese mathematicians, thereby indirectly contributing to the development of modern mathematics in China. Key Words: Hyman Bass; Algebraic K-theory; Mathematical education; American Mathematical Society
