Abstract: Carl Friedrich Gauss had made landmark achievements in number theory, algebra, geometry, astronomy, physics, etc. He put forward the philosophy that “number is purely a product of our minds”. Through the research and analysis of Gauss’ works, letters and other literature materials, this paper mainly reviews his life experience, achievements and philosophical beliefs in order to have a deeper understanding of the mathematician.
