A Study on the Process of the Choice of Nuclear Reprocessing Technology in 1960s China
Abstract: Nuclear reprocessing is a key technology of the Soviet nuclear aid to China. In the middle of the 1960 s, China finally abandoned the Soviet reprocessing technology and switched to more advanced method developed independently. The technology and its application in nuclear fuel reprocessing plants made China one of the leading countries in this field throughout the world. The origin and development of the tough choice of reprocessing technology between two technical routes is reviewed in this paper. It indicates that the Soviet did not intend to provide backward technology.

A Study of the Tortuous Development of the Commercial Reprocessing Technology in China
Abstract: Reprocessing is considered as an important link in the back-end nuclear fuel cycle. China developed the military reprocessing technology successfully in 1960s but did not continue to support R&D on the commercial reprocessing for some reasons. Currently China's backwardness on the commercial reprocessing is restricting the sustainable development of nuclear power. In this paper, the tortuous development of commercial reprocessing technology is discussed.

From Family Legacy to Personal Achievement: The Scientific Story of Irène Joliot-Curie
Abstract: Irène Joliot-Curie was a great female radiochemist of the 20th century. She began working at her mother’s Radium Institute at the age of 21 and married Frédéric Joliot in 1926. They cooperated on nuclear research. Although they missed many major discoveries, they finally discovered artificial radioactivity, for which they won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1935. This discovery promoted the wide application of radioisotopes in medicine and other fields. In addition to her scientific research contributions, Irène also actively participated in social activities, calling for women’s rights and world peace. She helped establish the French National Research Center and was an outstanding feminist and social activist. Key Words: Irène Joliot-Curie; Radioactive science; Female scientists
