Abstract: The early 20th century saw the emergence of a large number of outstanding mathematicians, many of whom made outstanding contributions to the development and growth of topology. The Topology School of Princeton in the United States included many great mathematicians, and Solomon Lefschetz was one of the main advocates of “algebraic topology”. Lefschetz struggled for 30 years at Princeton, growing from a lonely, disillusioned young man to a respected topologist and leading the American school of topology in becoming the center of world mathematics, laying the foundation for the flourishing of topology in the 20th century.
